Somewhere in Europe in the late 90s, someone came with the concept of a reality show in which 12 people, 6 men and 6 women, will have to live together in the same house, with cameras everywhere and no interaction outside of that environment. They will all have to be single and looking for love. There will be eliminations each week, until only one man and one woman are left. these will be the winning couple. The show was called Loft Story, an evident pun on Love Story.
The concept got so popular, it was sold to many countries around the world, including Quebec, Canada's French speaking province. It was that local version of Loft Story that I volunteered to parody for Safarir, the magazine I worked for. Instead of doing an official parody, I decided to just get inspired by some of the most memorable events from the show's first season (1994-95). And since I love drawing toons, why not replace the original lofters with characters from popular cartoon series? Here's the result:
Panel 9: There's the word "vomi" on the barrel, french for "barf", but it was too small to be translated.
Panel 8: Inspired by a true anectote taken from Quebec's version of loft Story, in the french version I had Selma and Ricky having an argument about the best way to make spaghetti sauce.
Panel 3: Unfortunately, Quagmire's speech balloon hides a vynil record playing pterodactyl.
Panels 1-2-4-7: As opposed to what it is in the Sons of Butchers cartoon series, these aren't digitalised photos of Ricky Butcher's face: I actually drew these.
Instead of having to always redraw Chef and Mrs Cartman, I made myself a South Park Model sheet that I reused every time the characters appeared. It didn't make sense to spend more time on the parody than the real South Park staff did on the real show.
