Notes On The Eight

Most of the speculations are dead on, some are a little bit off track, but that's ok at this point... Except for one thing:

Katia was a babysitter, she wasn't unattractive but she was on the skinny side, she still had her trademark pony tails from hell and her large breast that wiggle jiggle. She also had black hair.

Before her death, Katia was not skinny, she was overweight. Chapter 2, page 4, she says: "I know I lost my tummy..." It is possible her merging with Jason, a skinny redhead, made her a body just in between the both of them, IE: large but not fat, hair color lighter than her original jet black. And THAT is the reason her first victim, Michael, didn't recognise her right away. Okay, her hairstyle was similar, but hey, in MangaLand, people stop recognising a face as soon as the girl changes clothes. Just look at Usagi / Sailor Moon. "Oh, Sailor Moon, you saved me. But where is Usagi ? Have you seen her ?"

Yeah, but the difference there is superheroes like Spiderman and Captain America also wore masks or something to conceal their face, not just a change of clothes. Perhaps it's not that important, but it's worth mentioning.

Okay, note on:

I meant to say she wasn't on the skinny side. It was just late at night and when it gets late, typos are born. Going through The Eight, over and over again I've spotted many. Want me to point them out next time?

Good luck with fixing those mistakes. How the hell do you that anyways? Do you have a special type of white out or do you have to draw the entire strip over again? Either way, it doesn't look to fun, which is why I'm glad I'm a writer.

In a few panels spread out through the comic, there's a girl with dark black hair and white bangs. I dub her Rogue. X-men sucks. The movies were stretched to bejesus and back and you can only watch so many Magneto plans, but Rogue is cool.

Also, Katia says she has the power to assimilate. Is the version of her we see, the version of her she's always wanted to be? Plays a part in the intricate personality of our so-called villain. If I'm digging up all this with 47 strips, you got a really smart story going on. Can't wait to see the finished product.

And please Mazoku, more Sub-whey Dexter? Do it for Cancer, well not the deadly disease but me. Please? This is the start of the begging. It'll go from nicely asking to elevated demanding. So please Mazoku, more Sub-whey Dexter. I'll love you for it.

The original pages got no speech balloons, and that enables me to rewrite the entire text if I choose to do so. And if I wasn't lazy, I could just take the webcomic JPG version, white -out the mistakes in photoshop and correct the text.

You mean in the first pages, at Maurice's ? I think that's one of Mazoku's already-named character, created before I even knew Mazoku.

In the french version, Rogue is re-named Malicia, by the way.

I think that was a wrong choice of words. My bad. What I meant was, she could live with being a vampire. That wasn't much of a shock for her. That's what I meant by "assimilate".

Give the man a Dexter Award ;D Yes, her actual body is the way she always wanted to look. It's like her ideal self or something. See, we all have some kind of a top shape we can potentially reach, if we train well enough and take good care of ourselves. When she was alive, Katia did nothing to achieve her full physical potential. She was too busy being into pleasures of all sorts.

I would love a cameo. That would be insane. It is almost my 19th birthday. I wouldn't even mind sharing cameo room with Claire. Even more awesome however would be more strips of Dexter. He should do a cameo in the actual comic. I like him more than other characters. You know, we should just start a thread and begin a petition for more Meanwhile at Sub-whey strips. I bet everyone would sign. Who doesn't love Dexter?

On the issue of Malicia, that's a cool name. So Mazoku-chan has a name for that character already, wonder what her role was. I think part of the appeal of The Eight is that its a new story. It's not like Batman or X-men. We don't know much about the characters, the villains and so forth. We're not seeing the same storylines repeated over and over. So far, except for one minor exception, all the people killed have stayed dead and haven't come unexpectedly back for revenge.

I like characters that have lots of background yet to be discovered and touched. All the old classics have been done over and over and practically everything's been explored. This is a simple story but there's an aura of mystery and several things yet untouched. The best thing about the Eight, is there's no clue what to predict next. There's lots of back story being told in tid-bits and there's whats going on in the present. Katia and Jason have two different stories going on.

Katia's trying to get revenge for what happened and Jason is kind of just trying to live his life. He's become an adult and has to deal with relationships. He doesn't really love Isabelle or want to have a sexual affair with her but Miroku and Isabelle are both constantly prodding him. Jason's more of an introvert and not ready to deal with these kind of things.

Katia's struggle is all about getting revenge for being killed. She loves her new body but, its not permanent. It's kind of an awesome twist on the Hulk. I could picture Jason getting caught in trouble of some sort and dishing out the line:

" You don't want to make me mad when I have boobs."

And he transforms into Katia and just starts beating the hell out of a bunch of people.

That probably won't happen but, its kind of fun thinking of how Jason will deal with Katia possessing his body.

Its kind of weird how Jason the guy that doesn't really know how to deal with girls has to live with one in his head. Katia's more open and sexual about herself. She's proud of the body she's made. She feels powerful, she knows she could kill Patrick whenever she wanted but, that wouldn't be fun. Kissing a girl in front of a bunch of strangers would be fun.

Katia is in every sense everything Jason isn't. She just doesn't care about what's right or wrong, she does what she wants. Jason would never do anything Katia does. Its worthwhile to mention that Jason's feelings are mostly pentup inside himself, he only has Miroku to talk to about Isabelle. Katia has for the last 14yrs been stuck underground, waiting, hoping to be rescued.

Now that she's free, she's making the most out of her 9 hours a night. Jason doesn't make the most out of what's been given to him. He's not really happy with himself while Katia isn't really happy but she's making the most out of it. She killed one of the freaks and got to play with Patrick and now she can sleep knowing that'll be scared and wondering when she'll sleep. That's probably why she roamed the town.

She's no Eric Draven. She's been hurt and wants to get the most out of her revenge. She doesn't want to just kill them and get it over with, she wants to make them suffer. What better strategy than making all her killers worry and live in fear. They have to deal with the death of their friend Michael and now they can't sleep at night because Katia might be lurking somewhere, waiting.

Robert was mortified when Brian told him two more corpses showed up. Each one of them has to be thinking, which one of us is next? Katia is all about power. What's more greater than having everyone where you want them. They're cowering, they're worrying, she had Patrick begging and she can kill any one of them at any time. Its perfect revenge: Making the people who wronged you suffer and know whatever they do, they are fucked.

She'll keep on killing them but, giving them time to run in circles and get scared adds to the fun. She likes to play with her victims. She seduced Michael and teased Patrick. Ray and Vicky the Victim were unlucky bystanders. She stills suffers the emotional burden of being murdered and raped and refuses to see it acted out again, that's why she threatens to kill Ray if he touches her. She kills Vicky the Victim because she refuses to take any shit.

I could write more but, I want some feedback.

This scream dream/nightmare sequence when Jason fall asleep by day due to the fact that he's not sleeping. Or.... oh hell my funny brain is giving me wicked ideas again... now that he's unconcious But Steve has probably planned something else so ....

Thanks, April 16th. Kind of scary time when you think about the significane of 19 in the story. Katia was killed and raped on her 19th birthday and Jason is being possessed by her at the age of 19. Guess how long it took to color code my first post.

Katia is kind of an ongoing party girl. It's like, she knows she wants to take revenge, but the joy of being "alive" again, AND a vampire, AND sexy, AND invulnerable, it's just too overwhelming to be thinking about dark vengeance only. The girl is having the time of her...er... existence. That's the reason why the first thing she did, on her first night back, is going to Maurice's. The fact that she found Michael there is pure coincidence, and since she'a now a vampire, she decided he would be the perfect guinea pig for her new undead abilities. And what happend on her second night out ? Patrick is already there, at her burial site. close to her. I mean, if ot wasn't for these 2 coincidences, maybe she wouldn't even go for them. That's not her first priorities. She just played with Patrick, said to herself "ah, what the heck, why not scare them a lil'bit !?", gave her message to Patrick, let him go, and then decided to have some fun.

But don't let yourself fooled. Even though she's just a little ball of pure joy, Katia is a very dangerous person. After spending 14.5 years as a rotting corpse underground, concious all the time, she thinks she already earned (or paid for) the rights to do whatever she pleases. And the fact that she is now so powerful, and succeded in acheiving some kind of immortality, she feels very carefree, and superior to the rest of humankind.

Powerful + Self-righteous + Unafraid of death + non-empathic = the deadliest combinaison of all.

As for Jason, he has been raised by an unabusive, yet dominant mother. A woman who was cheated on, then abandonned (or so she thinks), by the first guy she ever loved. Some mothers become overprotective after such experiences, other hate their child. It is safe to guess she might have been right in the middle: A good mother, but maybe a little bit cold. That + the fact that he was raised without a male role model might explain Jason's shy personnality.

Pics received. According to my plan for chapter 3, I can book you on Page 17, in two panels, as an innocent bystander Katia bumps into. At 2-3 pages a week, it will be way past your birthday, but what the heck. The good job you do in this thread deserves a little something in return.

Who knows, once the 170 pages trade paperback is done, maybe some big shot in Hollywood will want to make it into a movie. Then, you'll get to play yourself in that scene.
