Only 2 more The Eight pages to go before the end of chapter one (a chapter = 22 pages = 1 comic book). Starting today, I'll be updating every other day, because after that, I'll be away for 10 days for Christmas, unable to update. 4 pages in 8 days, that means the first chapter of The Eight will be done by december 18... Exactly 2 months after first appearing online.
... two months in existence and already more then 15,000 visits.
You know, I really love Artiztech College but I have to face facts: I can't go on anymore. Why is that ? Five reasons:
1- Production:
With Mazoku Chan pencilling the characters, I can produce pages for The Eight way much more faster then I ever could with Artiztech College.
2- At online comics.com:
Number of people who put Artiztech in their favorites since 11/25/03: 40 (in 13 months).
Number of people who put The Eight in their favorites since 10/21/04 : 57 (in 6 weeks).
3- The visits:
15,000 visits for The Eight in 2 months. (7500 a month)
29,000 for Artiztech College in 13 months (2231 a month)
4- Comparison:
Whenever someone tells me about both my webcomic, it is to tell me how they like The Eight better.
5- Conclusion / final choice:
The Eight's popularity is something that happened by itself.
I've been pushing Artiztech time an again whenever I could, with little success.
I have learned the hard way that there is nothing to gain by spending my time and energies backing up a loser. Compared to The Eight, Artiztech is a loser.
So, even though Artiztech College will always have a special place in my heart, even though I still have more than a hundred stories to tell about those characters, I'm afraid this is the end of their adventures.
... Unless there's an artist, somewhere out there, who would like to be associated with me, and take care of the art.
Until then... Well, it was fun, for my first experience in webcomicdom.
------------
The most ironic part about that is: Monday, November 01, 2004, I discovered that an old ex-friend of mine wrote in her blog that she co-created Artiztech College, and described the series as being dead, which was way untrue, since I was in the process of doing the Toastmasters Challenge strips.
Today, 6 weeks later, Artiztech College is really dead, and it's my turn to offert the art job to any cartoonist interested to take over, since I still have more unused Artiztech jokes in my notes.
So, in the end, even when you put her lies aside, ... It looks like she was right, after all.
